Global Social Innovators:

Origin Story

Building a Legacy of Social Impact.

Global Social Innovators emerged from a deep commitment to empowering individuals and strengthening communities, transforming traditional methods to address the complexities of today’s world. Beginning with community mediation and expanding into social welfare advice and targeted support programmes, we took proven ideas and redefined them within a model that prioritises collaboration, adaptability, and lasting impact.

Today, our journey brings us to innovative solutions like the Advice For Life service and the Communities Leading Social Innovation toolkit—initiatives that reflect our unwavering dedication to advancing community-driven change through fresh, forward-thinking approaches.

The organisation began its journey as The Mediation and Advice Project CIC, rooted in the Eastern, South East, and London regions of the United Kingdom. Driven by a firsthand understanding of the rising need for accessible, comprehensive support, the founders set out to build an organisation that offered real, practical solutions to complex social, legal, and personal challenges.
Starting with mediation services to address interpersonal conflicts like anti-social behaviour, harassment, and neighbourhood disputes, we took a hands-on approach to resolving local issues. This groundwork laid the path for a far-reaching organisation, dedicated to bridging gaps in social welfare and empowering communities.

In response to increasing demand for social welfare support, we established the Social Welfare Advice Service to provide comprehensive general and specialised legal guidance on critical social welfare matters. This initiative represented a significant step forward, as we expanded our offerings to include court representation for evictions and repossessions, ensuring that individuals in challenging circumstances received committed advocacy within the legal system.

The organisation grew into an essential lifeline for vulnerable communities. Through our Debt Advice and Money Management services, people facing financial hardship received expert guidance on debt relief and bankruptcy options. Our current Advocacy Support programme empowers individuals with learning difficulties, mental health conditions, and disabilities to exercise their rights and make informed decisions.
Our dedicated volunteers—including retired professionals, law students, and community members—extend our reach with case management, home visits, and hands-on support. At the heart of our services are volunteer mediators, and advocates who provide compassionate, personalised care during times of crisis, delivering support that larger organisations often cannot match.

Already a trusted lifeline for communities across the UK, our organisation stepped up in unprecedented ways during the pandemic. As the crisis unfolded, we swiftly mobilised rapid-response social welfare support, ensuring individuals and families had immediate access to vital resources. From financial aid and housing support to mental health guidance, we provided a steady anchor for vulnerable populations, delivering critical help when it mattered most. Through these efforts, we not only addressed urgent needs but also strengthened the foundation for lasting change in our communities.

In recent years, the organisation recognised that community challenges are increasingly complex, tied to issues like inequality, climate change, and global economic shifts. To foster lasting change, we rebranded as Global Social Innovators, expanding beyond traditional support to inspire creative, sustainable solutions for poverty, inequality, and access to essential services. Through partnerships and shared resources, Global Social Innovators now fosters cross-sector collaboration, promoting innovation to address today’s critical challenges. This evolution has transformed the organisation into a multifaceted support system, empowering communities to lead through social innovation.
